Holy Shit! [Dec. 11th, 2009|03:49 pm]

I can't even begin to explain how much fun I've been having. I've gone out a couple times this week, even though i normally don't go out. And holy moly! I go out and i'm just SO happy that I know the people I know.

Bree and Mali
Bree, Mali, and Jonathon
So, last night Bree, Mali, Devin, and my housemate Jonathon all went downtown. We wound up getting free drinks and having a crazy dance party. It was so fun. Afterwards, Devin came over, and we hung out with Jonathon (who i've never gone out with), and stayed up to the wee hours drinking. I am SO lucky that I live with an awesome person.

mali! and devin

Devin, Mali, and myself also went downtown and tore up 6th street on Monday.

Going out with Mali and Devin is seriously a trip. I feel like we really got something, the three of us.

Austin, TX [Dec. 9th, 2009|09:25 am]

I've been in Austin, Texas for 10 months. I'm not sure if I've really written about my love for this city. Everyday I realize how lucky I am to live in a city that I absolutely feel is a great place to live in. Though I miss California SO much with the ocean, big sur, mountains, friends, family, yosemite, etc, I am very glad I don't live there currently.

Texas Texas Texas

It never really sounded appealing, moving to Texas from California. Every person I told I was moving to Texas, they'd have the instant reflux to ask "Why would you move to Texas?" I'd try to justify my move to the Lone Star State by saying, "well, I'm moving to Austin. It's cool there."

"But you're moving to Texas?"

Yes. As much as I knew I would like Austin, trying to explain to people WHY Austin is such a great place to live is difficult. Especially to most Californians, since most Californians believe it is the best place in the world. But the poor economy, the housing costs, the high gas prices, the amount of shitty people, it just wasn't working out for me and California at this point in my life.

Texas on the other hand...
Austin is Texas's state capitol. It's green friendly, it's keeping shit local, and it's totally fucking weird. There's an austin-famous tranny who hangs out downtown with assless chaps. When she gets hurt, it's in the news. The Onion stands are everywhere. The street lights are horizontal, not vertical. The rent is a fair price. The economy isn't so bad. There's a huge lake downtown. There's creeks everywhere. The green belt is beautiful. Also downtown is a BEAUTIFUL springfed pool (not like a pool pool, but a natural bottom, blue swimming hole) with a diving board and lots of trees to lay under. There's a block party every weekend on 6th street, which is bar hopping galore. Most bars are venues, and there's always at least one good band playing a night. The local video store has "free-beer tuesdays" so you can rent a video while drinking a cold one and meet some new people. There's music festivals once a month, about (sxsw, acl, chaos in tejas, etc). Everything is fairly close, there aren't crazy hills, the weather is mild, and it's filled with awesome people. Most people IN Austin don't seem to be from austin. East coast, west coast, north east.... anywhere else. Also, this isn't a family town, where people come to settle down. I barely know anyone who's married/have kids, and they're all in their later 20's and 30s. Age doesn't matter, though it DOES seem like everyone is a little older and educated. The city is artist friendly. I've heard that austin is a great place for an artist to live because the rent is so cheap, that you can actually sell your art work and live off of the money. Good god.

My mind got muddled, and I don't think that anyone really cares about this.

I wish that everyone I knew would live here with me. We could get a big 4 bedroom house for 1100 dollars a month. We could have a vegetable garden and a summer time pool. we can get margaritas and go to the state capital building. blahblahbalh
